Job Description

Lighthouse Technology Services is seeking a Perimeter Security Engineer for a Direct hire role in Buffalo, NY.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for architecture, design, deployment, maintenance and management of the perimeter defense technologies.
  • Work closely with Technology management, senior Engineers, and support teams on a regular basis to implement and manage the design, development, and execution of technical solutions that meet or exceed current and future needs of the organization.
  • Infrastructure architecture and design, research and development of new or expanded systems, creation of technology standards and policies, thorough analysis of user requirements and operational constraints, unit test and system integration, and user acceptance testing.
  • Regularly and independently interact with business partners of varying associate and management levels to ensure clarity of the problem/opportunity and elicit business requirements.
  • Coordinate vendor interactions and/or vendor resources as needed.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced engineers, technicians, and integrators.
  • Review documentation, proposals, and changes proposed by less experienced staff.
  • Timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • 3rd level troubleshooting of issues, vendor relationship and license management, business continuity planning, capacity planning, audit /compliance, disaster recovery and platform maintenance.
  • Drafting support documentation, the cross-training of operational team members and 7x24 third level support call rotation.
  • Assist in establishing and enhancing regulatory and compliance processes.
  • Engineering security technology solutions following all relevant best standards and practices.
  • Provide technical knowledge as input into standards creation and update on an ongoing basis as products and technologies evolve.
  • Complete technical security deliverables on assigned projects
  • Responsible for working with the Project Office (project management), ensure projects are resourced correctly and from this that they meet deadlines and budgets.

Requirements Include:

  • Bachelors degree and six years of experience in IP based networks, network design, and security products, or in lieu of degree ten years of relevant experience
  • Extensive network troubleshooting experience required.
  • Strong experience in firewall technologies, including hands-on experience in providing firewall support, installation and analysis of infrastructure communication. Experience with Check Point products preferred.
  • Working knowledge DNS/HTTP/HTTPS/PKI Certificate technology.
  • In depth understanding of Network Ports, Network Address Translation and Access Lists.
  • Ability to take and read packet level network traces.
  • Ability to create network / system diagrams with Microsoft Visio.
  • Working knowledge of Python and Perl scripting.
  • Experience with several different operating systems: Linux & Windows Server
  • Create/update/close change requests in requisite change system, design change and submit change forms, or review submitted change forms and correct any deficiencies, stage or implement change and troubleshoot failed changes.
  • Assess vendor vulnerability reports against existing supported infrastructure - implement mitigation activities if required.
  • Understanding of Caching/Proxy devices such as Forcepoint Triton proxy.
  • Understanding of Global/Local load balancing devices including F5.
  • Understanding of the 7 layers of OSI model and ability to troubleshoot complex incidents involving first four layers.
  • Knowledge of established security procedures, policies and best practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
